Movie producer Stanley Ontop has publicly questioned the wife of late actor John Okafor following a recent appeal for financial assistance, raising concerns about the management of funds and assets linked to the actor’s estate.
The controversy began after an appeal was made on behalf of Mr Ibu’s widow, stating that she and her children were facing financial hardship, including unpaid rent, lack of electricity, and difficulties paying school fees.
Reacting to the appeal, Stanley Ontop expressed surprise that another fundraising effort was being made just a few years after the actor’s death, questioning the reasons behind the continued financial requests.
“How can you come out just two years after your husband’s death and start asking Nigerians to contribute money for you? What exactly is the money for?” he asked.
He further demanded clarity on the handling of funds and assets belonging to the late actor, alleging that Mr Ibu had approximately ₦66 million in his bank account prior to his death.
Stanley Ontop also referenced earlier fundraising efforts during the actor’s burial, where Nigerians reportedly contributed significant sums to support the family.
“Mr Ibu left ₦66 million in his account. Where is the money? During his burial, you claimed that he had no money in his account, yet Nigerians contributed over ₦30 million. What happened to those funds?” he said.
The producer additionally alleged that several properties belonging to the late actor, including more than eight assets in Asaba and one in Enugu State, had been sold, raising further questions about the proceeds from those transactions.
The claims have sparked renewed debate on social media over transparency in celebrity fundraising and the management of estates of late public figures in Nigeria. However, no official response has been issued by the family regarding the allegations at the time of filing this report.
